facebook gets rid of fan gates

With brands no longer able to instruct users to like pages as a way to unlock content or enter contests, industry experts say they will have to engage consumers in more authentic ways.

Has “like-gating” been a tactic for your business to gain new fans on Facebook? Time to change strategies! Facebook has banned the practice of requiring a “like” to access premium content or as an entry into a contest.

Regarding your Facebook engagement, it’s time to:

  • work on creating great content that your audience wants to engage with and share.
  • consider paid Facebook ads to get in front of more potential fans.
  • Consider whether or not Facebook is the right platform for your business.

Has your business depended on like gating? What will you do now?
